Taylor is a theater artist with a wide range of creative experience from classical, traditional, and musical performances to physical theater, mime/mask, circus, and commedia dell'arte. He has performed in English and Italian on stages in the USA, Italy, Germany, and France. He has created performances in collaboration with the Accademia dell'Arte in Arezzo (IT), Les Heures Musicales in Le Treport (FR), the Berliner Schule für Schauspiel in Berlin (GR), the Scuola di Arte Dramatica Paolo Grassi in Milan (IT), and FLIC Scuola di Circo in Torino (IT), as well as performing in more traditional shows with Lexington Children's Theater (USA) and the Lexington Shakespeare Festival (USA).
Taylor has also trained extensively with both the Society of American Fight Directors and the British Academy of Stage and Screen Combat, and is a recognized Actor Combatant in rapier/dagger, unarmed, broadsword, knife, sword/shield, quarterstaff, smallsword, and single rapier. He has worked as a fight choreographer, fight captain, and actor combatant in a variety of shows. Taylor is a member of the Independent Drama Action Specialists Fight Unit in London (UK), and has created an original stage combat performance piece (Spade Per Due, Cappuccino Per Uno with Chris Lindsay) as well as an original combat commedia dell'arte canovaccio (Brunch With Pulcinella with Bob Shryock), to name a few. He has taught classes and led workshops in stage combat and physical theater at Catawba College (NC) and the Accademia dell'Arte.
Taylor is a native son of Lexington, Kentucky. He performed in his first play at Lexington Children's Theater when he was four years old and continued to be active there as an actor, teaching assistant, and technician for both professional and student productions until he left for university. He attended Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina where he was regularly cast in departmental and student productions, earning an SETC Irene Ryan nomination for Acting and a BA in Theater Arts. Taylor then moved straight to Italy, where he attended the inaugural full-year study program at the Accademia dell'Arte in Arezzo, Tuscany. After studying commedia dell'arte, clown, movement, voice, mask, and mime, Taylor worked at the Accademia for a year. Taylor then became a full-time English language teacher, earning his teacher's certificate from the University of Cambridge (UK), and taught for two years. He enrolled in the inaugural MFA in Physical Theater class at the Accademia dell'Arte to deepen his knowledge of commedia and other physical theater forms. He completed the MFA and his thesis On the Masque and Sword: A Creative Exploration of Social Status Through Staged Physical Combat and the Commedia dell'Arte received much acclaim. Taylor has also worked as a professional brewer, a bicycle tour guide, and a bodyguard for Jimmy Buffett.
